WILSON Isidor's Sunderland importance has been underlined with a new contract for the striker until 2030.

There was plenty of interest in Isidor this summer but Sunderland officials and Regis Le Bris made it clear to the striker that he was still a big part of the club's plans moving forward.

After Eliezer Mayenda's exit, Sunderland were desperate to keep Isidor, with Le Bris confirming a couple of weeks before the Premier League season got underway that the Haiti international was going nowhere.

And his new deal at the Stadium of Light has now been finalised and confirmed.

“I’m very happy to continue my journey with Sunderland," said the 25-year-old.

“Playing in the Premier League and representing Haiti at the World Cup have been special moments for me, and now I’m focused on continuing to improve, helping the team and giving everything I can for the supporters.”

Isidor joined Sunderland in August, 2024, initially on loan from Zenit Saint Petersburg before making the deal permanent the following February. He's scored 19 goals in 83 appearances for the Black Cats.

And although he had to play second fiddle to Brian Brobbey last season, with his last Premier League start coming in December, with Europa League football to balance this term, Isidor has been told he has a key and prominent role to play moving forward.

Florent Ghisolfi, Sunderland's director of football, said: “Wilson has been an important part of the journey this club has been on, from fighting for promotion to establishing ourselves back in the Premier League.

“What represents Sunderland is his attitude and commitment to the team. Whether he starts the game or comes from the bench to make an impact, he always gives everything he has. That mentality and pride are an important part of our identity.

“He has already grown a lot with us, but he is still young and there is more work to do and more progress to make.

"We are proud that Wilson wants to continue this journey with Sunderland, and we are looking forward to seeing him keep developing and contributing to what we are building together.”
